Clinical and epidemiologic evaluation of Vibrio cholerae prevailed in Jeonbuk province in 1980.

Abstract
|
|
|
A survey of 3,833 feces carried out in Jeonbuk province from september of 1980 to tlhe middle of October of 1980 to confirm the Vibrio cholerae showed 92 cases of positive stool culture.
Clinical and epidemiological evaluation of those 92 cases of Vibrio cholerae showed the following conclusions.
1) The time of prevalence was from early of september to middle of october 1980. Peak outbreak was during 2 weeks from 15th to 30th september 1980.
2) Biotype of those Vibrio cholerae was El for type, and serotype was Inaba.
3) Stool culture from feces of 3,833 cases showed positive in 92 cases (2.4%) . 34 cases of those 92 cases were apparent infection and 58 cases (63%) were inapparent carrier.
4) Clinical manifestation of severe 16 cases from 34 apparent infection cases showed diarrhea (100%). nausea & vomitting (50%) abdominal pain(44%), mild fever (25%), myalgia (19 %) , numbness of extrimities (13 %) .
5) Average duration of hospitalization was 4.7 days and suspected incubation period was within 24 hours. No cases of death were reported.
6) Geographic distributions were Booan Gun(35.9%), Soonchang gun(28%). Okgoo Gun (8.7%), Kunsan City(8.7%), Wanju Gun(6.5%) and Namwon Gun(3.3%).
